MONONA — Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHM) School, 5913 Schofield St., is hosting the second annual Hispanic Festival on Saturday, May 3, from 5 to 8 p.m. The festival celebrates the heritage of the Hispanic community at IHM and in the Diocese of Madison.
Children at IHM School have participated in a Hispanic dance group all year. They will be performing the traditional dances they have learned and be dressed in authentic costumes. Entertainment will also be provided by other Hispanic dance groups from the area. A dinner of homemade traditional foods, such as tamales and salsa, will be provided along with drinks.
IHM began the Catholic School Advantage Program (CSA) four years ago as an outreach to the growing Catholic Hispanic families in the Madison area. IHM offers those families an opportunity to educate their children in the Catholic faith of their heritage, as well as receive an excellent education.
Catholic schools support pride in the Hispanic culture while children learn about their new community and school. IHM proudly offers scholarships to qualifying families as part of the CSA program. Proceeds from the Hispanic Festival will be used entirely for the CSA scholarship program.
Catholic Financial Life (CFL) volunteers will be assisting at the event. As part of their mission to “serve God through serving others,” they will help in the dining room and offer financial support. CFL volunteers helped at the festival last year and were impressed by the hard work the IHM families had put into this wonderful family event.
At 5 p.m., volunteers will begin serving food; dancing and entertainment will begin at 5:30 p.m. Besides admission, donations are welcome. Call 608-222-8831 with questions.
