MADISON — Fr. J. Daryl Furlong, pastor emeritus of the Diocese of Madison, died on Saturday, March 17, at the age of 73 while residing during the winter months in Florida.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday, March 22, at 11 a.m., at St. Patrick Church, 315 Cherry St., Janesville, with Bishop Robert C. Morlino as celebrant. Fr. Steve Kortendick, was homilist.
A celebration of life was held in Hazel Green, on Sunday March 25, at St. Francis de Sales Church. Interment was in St. Francis de Sales Parish Cemetery, Hazel Green.
He was born in Hazel Green, WI on May 16, 1938, the son of Thomas E. and Lorena (Legler) Furlong. Father Furlong retired on June 15, 2005. He was ordained on May 28, 1966.
Father Furlong served the Diocese of Madison as Associate Pastor at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, Monona; St. Bernard Parish, Middleton; and Sacred Hearts of Jesus & Mary Parish, Sun Prairie; Associate Pastor Pro Tem. at Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish, Madison; and Pastor at St. Patrick Parish, Janesville from where he retired.
He also served on the Music Committee of Liturgical Commission, was director of the Marriage and Family Life Office, and instructor at Edgewood High School, Madison.
He is survived by brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews.
