MADISON — The free community meal program held at the Catholic Multicultural Center until its closing by the Diocese of Madison May 28 has been temporarily relocated to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 605 Spruce St., starting June 15.
The meal schedule will continue to be the same as it was at the center: every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and the last Tuesday and Thursday of each month from 4 to 5 p.m. All community members in need of a meal are welcome.
“My biggest concern was for our clients and our guests,” said Steve Maurice, who ran the meal program at the center.
When the center shut down, Maurice partnered with Second Harvest Food Bank and St. Mark’s Lutheran Church to reopen the meal program.
St. Mark’s Lutheran was also the site for the meal program in 2001 and 2002, when the Catholic Multicultural Center was under construction. The center replaced St. Martin House, which was erected by the diocese in 1946.
A group of local parishes led by Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish in Madison is working to reopen the center.
