MADISON — A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Monona on Tuesday, Feb. 10, for Fr. Loran Miller, OFM Cap., 77, who died on February 5, 2015, in Waunakee.
Fr. Gary Wegner, OFM Cap., vicar provincial of the Capuchins, will be the main celebrant and homilist. Interment will be at a later date in Mount Calvary.
Miller was born in 1937 and named Donald Joseph, the son of Grace Kreul and Albert Miller. He was raised in Madison and attended Catholic schools, graduating from St. Bernard School. He attended St. Lawrence Seminary, Mt. Calvary, from 1951 to 1955; entered the Capuchin novitiate; and professed his first vows in 1956. He continued his studies at St. Felix Friary in Huntington, Ind., and at St. Anthony Friary in Marathon.
He was ordained to the priesthood in 1964. His ministered for 12 years in Nicaragua. He also served at St. Joseph Parish in Saginaw, Mich.; in retreat ministry; and at St. Fidelis Friary in Appleton. In 2002, he moved to Madison, where he continued Spanish ministry and the shipping of materials to the Nicaraguan missions.
He is survived by his mother, Grace Miller of Waunakee; five sisters: Jacqueline (Tom) McConley of Madison, Mary JoAnn (Tom) Kassabaum of Weeki Wachee, Fla., Virginia (Ted) Trulson of Fountain Hills, Ariz., Dawn (Fran) Schwartz of Lodi, and Diane Miller of Lodi; and two brothers: Robert (the late Georgian) Miller of Sun Lakes, Ariz., and Patrick (Sandra) Miller of Lodi.
