JANESVILLE — Fr. John Richard Auby died Thursday, July 23, 2015, at the age of 58, at Agrace Hospice Care in Janesville.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. William Church, 456 N. Arch St., Janesville, on Tuesday, July 28, at 11 a.m. Bishop Robert C. Morlino of Madison will be the celebrant with Msgr. Douglas Dushack as homilist.
The Rite of Committal was at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, Madison.
Father Auby was born May 7, 1957, in Madison, and is predeceased by his parents, John and Audrey (Richards) Auby. He is survived by his sister, Mary Kathryn.
After attending Lapham Elementary Grade School in Madison, Father Auby attended East High School in Madison. He earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in social work from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Father Auby completed both his collegiate studies in philosophy and earned a Masters of Divinity at Mundelein Seminary, Illinois. He was ordained by Bishop William H. Bullock of Madison on May 27, 1994, at St. Raphael Cathedral, Madison.
Father Auby served the Diocese of Madison as associate pastor at St. Bernard Parish, Middleton, and at St. Dennis Parish, Madison. He served as pastor of St. John the Evangelist Parish, Spring Green, with Mission of St. Malachy, Clyde, and most recently at St. William Parish, Janesville.
During his years of service to the Diocese of Madison, Father Auby served as the director of vocations; a Knights of Columbus chaplain of the Monsignor Lederer Council #4549; chaplain of the Serra Club of Janesville; and on the Presbyteral Council, Priest Personnel Board, and the Continuing Education of Priests Board.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. William Catholic Church or to the Priests for Our Future Campaign for seminarian education of priests for the Diocese of Madison.
