EDGERTON — A Mass of Christian Burial for Fr. George William Fox will be celebrated at St. Joseph Church, 590 St. Joseph Circle, Edgerton, on Friday, March 6, 2015 at 11 a.m.
Bishop Robert C. Morlino of Madison will be the main celebrant with Fr. Michael Moon as homilist.
Visitation will be Friday, March 6, from 9 a.m. until the start of Mass at St. Joseph Church.
Interment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Janesville will follow.
Father Fox died on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2015 at the age of 85, at Evansville Manor, Evansville. He was born on November 25, 1929, in in Edgerton and is predeceased by his parents, William and Lillian (Spohn) Fox.
After attending grade school at Stevens, Town of Porter, Father Fox attended Edgerton High School and Loras Academy, Dubuque, Iowa. His collegiate studies included a bachelor’s degree from Loras College, Dubuque, Iowa and a master’s eegree from Marquette University, Milwaukee.
He completed his collegiate studies in philosophy at Loyola University, Chicago, and theology at St. Paul Seminary, St. Paul, Minn.
He was ordained by Bishop William P. O’Connor on May 27, 1961, at St. Raphael Cathedral, Madison.
Father Fox served the Diocese of Madison as associate pastor at Nativity of Mary Parish, Janesville; Sacred Heart Parish, Reedsburg; St. Raphael Cathedral, Madison; St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Parish, Portage; St. Cecilia Parish, Wisconsin Dells; and St. Dennis Parish, Madison.
He served as pastor of St. James Parish, Neshkoro; St. John the Baptist Parish, Montello, with the mission of Good Shepherd Parish, Westfield; St. Joseph Parish, East Bristol; St. Joseph Parish, Markesan, with the mission of St. Mary Parish, Kingston; St. Patrick Parish, Doylestown, with the mission of St. Joseph Parish, Rio; and St. Mary Help of Christian Parish, Briggsville, which he retired from in 2000.
During his years of service to the Diocese of Madison, Father Fox served as a board member of the Latin American Mission Program (LAMP); advisor to Centro Guadalupe; and board of directors of UMOS.
He also served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Midway and the USS Bennington during the Korean War.
