MADISON –A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Fr. David H. Runde on Monday, May 16, 2016, at St. Francis de Sales Church in Hazel Green with Msgr. Gerard Healy as main celebrant and homilist. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Fr. David H. Runde, 84, Madison, died Friday, May 13, 2016, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison.
Father Runde was born on November 23, 1931, in Hazel Green, Wis., the son of Albert J. and Rose M. (Brandt) Runde. After attending Hazel Green Elementary and High School, he attended Loras College, Dubuque, where he studied philosophy. He then entered St. John University, Collegeville, Minn., where he studied Theology. He was ordained by Bishop William P. O’Connor on May 25, 1957, at St. Raphael Cathedral, Madison. His first Mass was celebrated on May 26, 1957, at St. Francis de Sales Church, Hazel Green.
Father Runde began serving the Diocese of Madison as an associate pastor of St. Henry Parish, Watertown. He continued his priestly ministry as pastor of St. Thomas Parish, Poynette; St. Barnabas Parish, Mazomanie with Mission to St. John the Baptist Parish, Mill Creek; St. John the Baptist Parish, Jefferson; and St. Patrick Parish, Cottage Grove, from which he retired in 2002. During his years of service to the Diocese of Madison, Father Runde served as area Vocation Director in Jefferson County; Advocate Procurator of the Tribunal and Defender of the Bond; President of the Priest Senate; Diocesan Conciliation and Arbitration Board; St. Raphael Society; Dean of the East Dane Deanery, and Diocesan College of Consultors.
Father Runde enjoyed golf, tennis, playing cards, and traveling. He traveled extensively outside of the country.
Survivors include two sisters, Marian Timmerman and Anna Mae Gisch, both of Dubuque, Iowa, and 25 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Delmar and Joseph Runde, and two sisters, Regina Vosberg and Kate Cole.
