MADISON — Pope Francis has captivated the attention of many people around the globe with his simplicity, humility, directness, and outreach to the marginalized.
He calls us to be in dialogue with the world reaching out to build a culture of “solidarity” or “encounter” in which a society shares and includes. This desire to love flows from the love we have received from Christ.
To help us better experience God’s love in the Scriptures and thus grow in loving, the Blessed Sacrament Parish Adult Faith Formation Committee will be offering various Bible studies this year:
- Adventures in Acts: The Spread of the Kingdom (Jeff Cavins — 20 weeks)
This Bible study shares the incredible story of the power of the Holy Spirit to transform the world. Learn how the confused and worried Apostles receive the Holy Spirit and continue the saving mission of Christ on Earth as the Church relives the life of Christ bringing salvation throughout the world. This course will meet on Wednesday afternoons from 1 to 3 p.m. beginning Sept. 25 and at other times depending upon interest.
- Galatians: Set Free to Live (Jeff Cavins — eight weeks)
This fascinating letter reveals the merciful love that God the Father has for us, his children. It speaks of the extraordinary gift of salvation that Jesus has won for us, and it explains how we can unite ourselves to Christ’s redeeming sacrifice through faith and love. This course will meet on Monday mornings from 9 to 11 a.m., Monday evening from 7 to 9 p.m., and Tuesday afternoon from 1 to 3 p.m. beginning on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1.
- Revelation: The Kingdom Yet to Come (Jeff Cavins — 11 weeks)
Revelation is one of the most intriguing books in Scripture. It is intended to “reveal” the divine mysteries to us. It pulls back the veil of heaven and shows us the glories of the Kingdom of God. And in the midst of this vision we discover how our faith, our liturgy, and our worship are a participation in the liturgy of heaven. This course will meet on Thursday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. beginning Sept. 26 and at other times depending upon interest.
The format for all of the above courses includes Scripture reading, home study questions, small group discussion, a video, and prayer. The price of the materials determines the course fee.
Contact Tom Claridge with any questions or to register for the courses at 608-238-3979 or tclaridge@tds.net by Monday, Sept. 9.
