MADISON — Topics like the Wisconsin Supreme Court, Abraham Lincoln, and learning how to provide even more compassionate client care are topics for educational lunches being planned with Catholic attorneys in the Diocese of Madison.
Continuing Legal Education credit (CLE) will be requested for each of these up-coming topics for the lunches sponsored by the diocesan St. Thomas More Society.
Speaker on November 1
On Friday, Nov. 1, Attorney James A. Ranney will speak on “Choosing Our Judges: Wisconsin’s Longstanding Debate.”
Ranney is a Madison attorney practicing in civil trial procedures and constitutional law and is the author of three books and many articles. His article on the Supreme Court appeared in the Wisconsin Lawyer in December 2011. He will bring his knowledge of the historical background and current issues to bear on this knotty question.The CLE seminar will take place following the 12:10 p.m. Mass for All Saints Day, a Holy Day of Obligation, at St. Patrick Church, 404 E. Main St., Madison.

On Friday, Dec. 6, the next seminar will feature Jackson Fonder, president and CEO of Catholic Charities-Diocese of Madison.
Attorneys often find themselves at the heart of troubling issues for individuals and families. Although legal skills can solve many problems, sometimes a legal practitioner sees that a client needs additional assistance that goes beyond legal advice.
Fonder’s presentation will show practicing attorneys many additional sources of compassionate help for clients in need of expertise beyond the legal realm.

The St. Thomas More Society was formed to foster high standards of ethics and professional responsibility, patterned after the example set by St. Thomas More. The society promotes deeper understanding of theology, philosophy, and jursiprudence, and their application to everyday legal problems.
