Mother Teresa of Calcutta was declared a saint on September 4, 2016, and her feast day was designated on September 5, the day of her death in 1997.
St. Mother Teresa inspires us to live out the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy. That’s why the Diocese of Madison established the Saint Mother Teresa Mercy Endowment Fund in 2016 in honor of her canonization and the Church’s Jubilee Year of Mercy.
The fund distributes grants to organizations throughout the diocese that are living out the Works of Mercy. See Pages 8 and 9 in this week’s Catholic Herald for more information on this wonderful way of helping those in need.
St. Mother Teresa said so many insightful things. One of them is, “I used to pray that God would feed the hungry, or do this or that, but now I pray that he will guide me to do whatever I’m supposed to do, what I can do. I used to pray for answers, but now I’m praying for strength. I used to believe that prayer changes things, but now I know that prayer changes us, and we change things.”
We can change things by living out the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy. One way is to contribute to the endowment fund.
