MADISON — In an area high school first, the Edgewood High School drama department is staging the Disney and Cameron Mackintosh Broadway version of Mary Poppins.
A huge ensemble cast and lead roles that have been double-cast means that the show involves more than 100 students on stage and behind the scenes.
Mary, Bert, Michael, Jane, and all the other characters will sing and dance through dozens of favorite numbers as Mary Poppins weaves her magical influence.The lead role of Mary Poppins will be played by Faith Holaday and Grace Welton. Bert will be played by David Holaday and Jonathan Ibach.
Katrina Brunner is the director and producer of the production; she also serves as the choreographer. The production will feature a pit orchestra with conductor Carrie Backman, a 1999 Edgewood High graduate. Musical director is Serina Jolivette.
Show dates are March 13 to 15 and March 20 to 22. Friday and Saturday shows are at 7 p.m. and Sunday shows are at 2 p.m. in the Sr. Kathleen O’Connell Auditorium at Edgewood High School, 2219 Monroe St.
Tickets are $12 for adults, $7 for students, and $5 for children to age 12 and seniors 65 and older. Reserve tickets at edgewoodhs.org
A sing-along with Mary Poppins will be held in the Sr. Kathleen O’Connell Auditorium on Saturday, March 21, at 1 p.m. This is for children age 10 and under and accompanied by an adult.
Kids can sing with the cast such favorites as “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” “A Spoonful of Sugar,” and “Let’s Go Fly a Kite.” There will also be chalk drawings, kite-making activities, and picture opportunities with Mary Poppins.
