MADISON — Anyone in the Diocese of Madison who is involved in music ministry, whether as a staff person or as a volunteer, is invited to attend the Office of Worship’s first annual Music Ministry Mass at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10, at Holy Name Oratory, 702 S. High Point Rd., Madison.
Bishop Donald J. Hying of Madison will preside at the Mass and will offer a special blessing for all those present. A reception will follow.
“Music ministry is so integral to the Mass, and those involved in it have so many things to prepare, in order to be able to minister to others,” said John Sittard, director of music for the Diocese of Madison.
“While we all do our best to tend to our spiritual lives, sometimes we need to be ministered to,” he said. “This is an opportunity for us to be on the other side of the pew, worship the Lord, and not be distracted by the actual doing of our ministry.
“This is a beautiful way for us to come together with the bishop”, Sittard said, noting that most choirs break for the summer, so having this Mass in the fall when choir rehearsals begin again is good timing. The diocese hopes this event for those involved in music ministry will become an annual tradition.
“The bishop always expresses such gratitude for those involved in music ministry, and he is very supportive of what we do”, Sittard said.
Those planning to attend the reception are asked to RSVP to the Office of Worship at
Julianne.Nornberg@sbmsn.org by September 3.
