MONONA — Bishop Robert C. Morlino will ordain Jared Holzhuter and Luke Syse, seminarians for the Diocese of Madison, as transitional deacons on Friday, April 1, at 7:30 p.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Monona.
A transitional deacon is a man who has completed his third year of theology studies and intends to be ordained as a priest in the Catholic Church.
Holzhuter is the son of Tammie and John Holzhuter, members of St. John Vianney Parish in Janesville. Syse is the son of Patty and Jim Syse of St. Isidore Parish in Blanchardville.
Holzhuter is in his third year of theology studies at Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit, while Syse is in his third year of theology studies at the Pontifical North American College in Rome.
Of his ordination, Holzhuter said, “It will be an immense privilege to serve the people of God as a deacon, and I’m grateful to the many people who have helped me to receive this call.”
Syse said, “I am very excited and thankful. God has been very generous to me throughout the seminary and, now that I look back, I can only say thanks to Him. I am excited to serve in the ways that God will show me and to prepare well for priestly ordination in 2017.”
