MONONA — St. Ambrose Academy will host a faculty lecture entitled “The Clash between Catholicism and National Socialism” by James Reuter, faculty history teacher, at Immaculate Heart of Mary parish, 5101 Schofield St. on Thursday, March 21 at 7 p.m in Marian Hall.
With the ascendancy of Adolf Hitler, Germans found themselves confronted with a government regime that demanded not only a nationalist sentiment but also a loyalty to the state that tolerated no other. Naturally, this demand caused a conflict within the citizens as they were forced to give their allegiance to either Church or state. As a result, many Catholics clung ever closer to their institutions, despite the Nazi’s constant incursions to try and end any form of visible Catholicism in Germany.
The lecture is free, and the public is warmly invited to attend.
