Dear Friends in Christ:
As Bishop of Madison, I am pleased to designate Sunday, October 16, as Catholic Charities Sunday in the Diocese of Madison.
Catholic Charities Madison has provided almost 70 years of service to parishes and communities throughout the Diocese. Catholic Charities’ ministry embodies our Catholic values, teachings, and traditions. As the charitable arm of the Church for the Diocese of Madison, they reach out to, and assist people who are hungry, who are disabled, who need mental health or family counseling, or who seek help with alcohol or drug abuse.
On this occasion, we recognize the good works that Catholic Charities does to fulfill the Church’s role in the mission of charity by providing compassionate, caring services to all God’s people.
This is an opportunity to reflect on the Gospel and the call of Jesus Christ to serve those in need. Let us join with Catholic Charities in reducing poverty, promoting human dignity, supporting families, and inspiring communities to compassionate service. Let us reflect on our personal responsibility and that of our parish community to participate in the outreach of the Church through the opportunities afforded us by Catholic Charities.
In the words of Pope Francis, “How beautiful it is to love one another as true brothers and sisters. How beautiful! Let’s do something today.”
Please continue to pray for Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Madison and particularly on Catholic Charities Sunday – October 16, 2016.
Faithfully yours in Christ,
The Most Reverend Robert C. Morlino
Bishop of Madison
