Young women from Ireland are leaders in Dead Theologians Society
MADISON — The Dead Theologians Society (DTS) now has an Irish connection. Leaders of the first DTS chapter in Ireland recently visited the Madison area for training in this Catholic apostolate for high school teens and college-aged young adults.
Catholic Saints Band brings gift of music
FOOTVILLE — The Janesville Catholic Saints Band traveled to nearby Footville on March 21 to bring the gift of music to the residents of St. Elizabeth Manor, an assisted living facility operated by the Sisters of Charity of Our Lady, Mother of the Church.
Fifty-four band members, representing fourth through eighth grade students from St. John Vianney, St. Patrick, and St. William Schools in Janesville, made the trip to the small neighboring community at the invitation of Mother Christopher Lemire, administrator.
Experiencing an igloo
Kris Benz-O’Leary’s kindergarten class at St. William School in Janesville has been studying the Arctic. This igloo, built of milk containers, is large enough to fit the whole class inside. An igloo or snowhouse was originally built by the Inuit, people who inhabited the Arctic regions of Canada, Denmark, and the United States.
Diocesan CCHD art contest winners
MADISON — Diocesan winners in the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) Multi-Media Youth Arts Contest were selected recently by the diocesan CCHD Committee chaired by Trudi Jenny. There were 16 diocesan entries in the contest.
The contest engages young people in grades seven to 12 in learning about poverty in the U.S., its root causes, and faith-inspired efforts to address it, especially through the CCHD.
Catholic Scouting hosts biennial St. George Trek
MADISON — DMCCS (Diocese of Madison Committee for Catholic Scouting) is now accepting applications for the biggest Catholic Scouting event in the country.
The St. George Trek, at Philmont, takes place every other year, and the next trek is planned for July of 2013, with applications being accepted until April 1, 2012.
