I read with mixed emotions an article in the March 22 issue of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel titled “Supporters lobby for Catholic lay worker in Beloit.” As I expected, Bishop Morlino had once again made an executive decision based on the teachings of the Catholic Church and not on the latest popularity poll.

It is all right for President Obama to come to Notre Dame, but don’t give him an honorary doctorate of law, because this doctorate coming from a Catholic university should be given to someone who respects and upholds the laws of God, such as “Thou shall not kill.”

The Hyde Amendment and over a dozen other right-to-life provisions that protect you from having to pay for abortions are up for grabs in Washington. Planned Parenthood estimates the Hyde Amendment alone has reduced abortions by 18 to 38 percent. If the Hyde Amendment is repealed, the number of abortions will skyrocket.

The secular press typically does not distinguish embryonic stem-cell research from adult stem-cell research. At this point in time there is not a documented cure from the application of embryonic stem-cell research. On the other hand, according to Archbishop Rino Fisichella, president of the Pontifical Academy for Life, adult stem-cell research has led to the cure of some 2,000 diseases.

Students, teachers, and staff enthusiastically organized and took part in the food drive held during Catholic Schools Week to help supply our new Madison pantry.
