On Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008, at 6 p.m. Fr. Steve Umhoefer and Carl Brey, both of Nativity of Mary Parish in Janesville, departed Madison for a trip to Ghana so that they could evaluate several aspects of the Global Solidarity Partnership (GSP) between the Catholic Diocese of Navrongo-Bolgatanga (N/B) in the Upper East Region of Ghana and the Diocese of Madison.

Bishop joins Portage parish in celebrating 175 years
St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Parish celebrated its 175th anniversary of parish life on December 8, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, and though the snowstorm that dropped about 6.5 inches by the following afternoon kept some from attending, including Bishop Robert C. Morlino and the parish’s oldest parishioner, the event was well-attended according to reports.
Diocesan seminarians enjoy studying in Belgium
Madison Diocese seminarians are attending 11 different seminaries this year, giving them an opportunity for a variety of formation programs and experiences.
Ecumenical service marks Week of Prayer
An ecumenical prayer service, commemorating the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, will be celebrated on Sunday, Jan. 18, at 6 p.m. at Assumption Orthodox Church, 11 N. 7th St. (northeast corner of E. Washington Ave.).

St. Ambrose Christmas dinner
Hundreds of staunch supporters of Catholic education and St. Ambrose Academy flocked, or rather, skated, to the Bishop O’Connor Catholic Pastoral Center on December 19 after a huge snowstorm for Christmas Dinner With the Bishop, the school’s major fundraiser of the year.
Four parishes sponsor series on St. Paul
Last summer, Pope Benedict XVI announced a year of celebration in honor of St. Paul the Apostle to run from June 28, 2008 (feast day of the Conversion of St. Paul) to June 28, 2009. The Vatican has encouraged Catholics around the world to study St. Paul in Scripture to “revitalize our faith in the light of his teachings and life.”

The perpetual Eucharistic Adoration program at Holy Redeemer Parish in downtown Madison and the Eucharistic Adoration for Vocations program available weekday mornings at the Bishop O’Connor Center are both in need of regular “scheduled” adorers (a regular hour every week) and substitutes.
Protest scheduled Jan. 8 in response to late-abortion plan
In response to plans by University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics (UWHC) to perform second-trimester abortions, all are invited to a prayer and protest rally outside the Madison Surgery Center, 1 S. Park St., Madison, at 8 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 8.
Helping and praying for others in time of need
Though a half hour late, Bishop Robert C. Morlino made it through the snowstorm on December 16 to pray with the people of Janesville and the surrounding community for faith, support, and hope during the current economic and employment turmoil.
