MADISON — In Matthew 25, we hear the parable of three men who are given talents by their master and what each does with the talents that are entrusted to them.
It’s a familiar reading and the lesson is that when we are blessed, it is pleasing to God for us to use our gifts and resources prudently.

MADISON — The Wisconsin Catholic Conference (WCC) urged support for legislation to provide local districts more flexibility in teaching human growth and development classes, as well as to permit abstinence-based instruction.
MADISON — The State Senate gave its approval to legislation to prohibit health insurance providers that participate in future state exchanges from including elective abortions in their coverage. The proposal, Senate Bill 92, sponsored by State Senator Rich Zipperer (R-Pewaukee) passed the Senate on a 17-16 party line vote.
MADISON — The morning of September 29, a handful of Edgewood High School (EHS) students were to be found tramping through the mud and rain in a garden outside of Madison, some 10 miles from their desks.
Far from skipping classes, though, these students were getting experience in the lessons of sacrifice and helping their community.
The students were taking part in an annual school-wide event called Edgewood in the Community Day, in which high school students engage in service projects at locations around the Madison area. The more than 50 non-profit organizations benefit from about 4,000 volunteer hours provided by not only the students, but also faculty, staff, and parents.

In the next two decades, the proportion of Americans over 65 years of age is projected to increase to nearly 20 percent of the population — more than seven percent greater than the proportion in the year 2000. This difference represents an estimated increase of 36 million people: the population over 65 in 2030 could be around 71 million.
MADISON — St. Mary’s Hospital’s cornerstone was laid 100 years ago on October 8, 1911.
On Saturday, Oct. 8, the hospital celebrated the laying of that cornerstone by handing out free apples — a cornerstone of good health — throughout Dane County.
MADISON — Officials with Edgewood College, University of Wisconsin Colleges, and Madison College (MATC) have established Articulation Agreements, making the path from a two-year degree to the completion of a four-year degree a lot smoother.
The formal agreements allow for students who complete a two-year program at any UW-College campus, UW-Colleges Online Program, or an Associates Degree from Madison College, to transfer to Edgewood College to complete a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree.
MADISON — Sr. Josephe Marie Flynn will lead a discussion of her book, Rescuing Regina: Saving a Friend from Deportation and Death, at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 23, at St. Bernard Church, 2450 Atwood Ave., Madison. She will sign copies of the book following her presentation.
Rescuing Regina tells the story of Regina Bakala, a refugee seeking asylum in the United States after being tortured and raped in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
