Seat of Wisdom courses for the Year of Faith
MADISON — Inspired in this Year of Faith by Pope Francis’ emphasis on charity and social justice, the diocesan Office of Evangelization and Catechesis is sponsoring two new courses on Catholic Social Doctrine, both being taught by Dr. Constance Nielsen.
The six-hour introduction course is being offered in regional parishes and available for local programming at the request of parishes or schools.
The more expanded course is being offered at the Bishop O’Connor Center one Saturday per month throughout the academic year. Remaining dates include November 23, January 25, February 22, March 22, April 26, and May 17.

Catholic Charities holds Aging Conference
MADISON — As people live longer, they are certainly interested in how to live healthier and happier in their later years.
Catholic Charities Aging Conference provided many “Keys to Aging Well” to about 125 persons attending the third annual event held October 8 at the Bishop O’Connor Center.
Catholic lawyers meet for educational lunches
MADISON — Topics like the Wisconsin Supreme Court, Abraham Lincoln, and learning how to provide even more compassionate client care are topics for educational lunches being planned with Catholic attorneys in the Diocese of Madison.
Continuing Legal Education credit (CLE) will be requested for each of these up-coming topics for the lunches sponsored by the diocesan St. Thomas More Society.

St. John’s Piecemakers quilt show to be held in Waunakee
WAUNAKEE — St. John’s Piecemakers Quilt Club of Waunakee will host their 13th annual Quilting Through the Ages quilt show on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 25 and 26, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at St. John School gym, 114 E. Third St.
More than 150 quilts will be displayed along with quilts that will be donated to local charities. A silent auction and quilt sale benefiting the Waunakee Food Pantry will be held. Luncheon items will be served by the Ashton Go-Getters 4-H Club.

Every Wednesday, before 6 a.m., a group of men gather at Holy Mother of Consolation Church in Oregon to share breakfast and their faith. The men come from that parish, as well as St. Ann Parish in Stoughton.

St. Ambrose lecture comes to Stoughton
STOUGHTON — The St. Ambrose Academy Faculty Lecture Series will be held on Monday, Oct. 21, from 7 to 8 p.m. at St. Ann Parish in Stoughton.
The newest faculty member at St. Ambrose, Michael Kwas, will share his research on “Conspiracy! Catholics, Anti-Catholicism, and Political Corruption in Civil War Era Wisconsin.”
During its first 15 years of statehood, Wisconsin witnessed a proliferation of real and imagined cases of corruption and conspiracy so extreme that the New York Tribune claimed, “Wisconsin is lost to honor; the home of corrupt politicians, and the home of a degraded people.” Anti-Catholic prejudice was often at the center of these cases.
