Bishop Hying ordains three new priests
A mere three days after his installation as the fifth Bishop of Madison, Bishop Hying, with a self-admitted devotion to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, ordained three men to the priesthood at St. Maria Goretti Church in Madison on Friday, June 28, the feast of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus.
The three new priests were: Fr. Steve Brunner, Fr. Bill Van Wagner, and Fr. Cristian Valenzuela.
Attorney to speak on immigration issues
MADISON — Asylum seeker or illegal alien? Attorney Sara Dady, an expert on immigration law, will respond to this question when she addresses the issues surrounding the current influx of immigrants from Central America.
She will speak on Wednesday, July 17, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the St. Dennis Parish Center, 413 Dempsey Rd.
Dady, Rockford, Ill., has been practicing family-based immigration law for over 13 years. Her cases involve obtaining visas for victims of domestic violence and other crimes, asylum law, and deportation defense.Natural Family Planning Awareness Week

Bishop Hying spoke those words during his homily at his Installation Mass as the fifth Bishop of Madison on June 25 at St. Maria Goretti Church in Madison. More than 1,500 people attended the Mass.
Women gather for 65th convention
WISCONSIN DELLS — “This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad,” said Bernadette Schaefer, president of the Madison Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (MDCCW), as she opened the 65th annual MDCCW convention earlier this month at St. Cecilia Parish Center here.
Hosted by the Sauk CCW, the one-day convention brought together women from across the diocese as well as guests from the Dioceses of La Crosse and Superior and the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. Fifty of the 140 attended the MDCCW convention for the first time.
Diocese of Madison Catholic Herald wins six Catholic Press Awards
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Diocese of Madison Catholic Herald won six awards in the annual Catholic Press Association competition announced June 21 in St. Petersburg.The awards include:
• Best News Writing on a Local or Regional Event to reporter Kevin Wondrash for an article on the annual March for Life in Chicago. Judges commented, “There have been many Marches for Life and many, many participants. Reporter Kevin Wondrash found success to making this march fresh and enjoyable by setting the scene and then letting the marchers do the talking. Meeting and conferring with people are key to good journalism, and it is achieved here, especially with the focus on young people.”
