Dear Friends in Christ,
As Bishop of Madison, I am pleased to announce that I am designating Sunday, October 13, as Catholic Charities Sunday for the Diocese of Madison.
Catholic Charities fulfills the Church’s role in the mission of charity by providing compassionate, caring services to all God’s people. It is important for us as Catholics to put our faith into action, where our Lord’s command to “Love our Neighbor” is carried out.
Catholic Charities is all about people helping people. They provide help and create hope for our brothers and sisters in Christ each and every day. The mission of Catholic Charities is clear:
• To Value Seniors by supporting independence, maintaining dignity, improving care, and providing friendship.
• To Nuture Children and Strengthen Families by protecting the vulnerable, building families and relationships, and developing life skills.
• To Empower People with Disabilities by encouraging independence, supporting choices, and fulfilling dreams.
• To Restore the Lives of Persons with Alcohol and Drug Addictions by treating the addiction, creating stability, and helping to secure housing and employment.
This is an opportunity to reflect on the Gospel and the call of Jesus Christ to serve those in need. Let us join with Catholic Charities in reducing poverty, promoting human dignity, supporting families, and inspiring communities to compassionate service. Let us reflect on our personal responsibility, and that of our parish community, to participate in the outreach of the Church through the opportunities afforded by Catholic Charities. Let us be “our brother and sisters keepers” through the good works of Catholic Charities.
Let us pray for Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Madison on Catholic Charities Sunday 2013 – October 13.
Faithfully yours in Christ,
Most Rev. Robert C. Morlino
Bishop of Madison
