The second grade class at St. John the Baptist School in Waunakee wrote stories about the birth of Jesus. Here are a few selections sent by Principal Conni Stark.

A long time ago, a girl named Mary lived in a town called Nazareth. One day while Mary was cooking, an angel named Gabriel came to Mary. She was scared, but she knew she had to listen. The angel said, “You shall be the mother of a king. You shall name him Jesus.” Mary was surprised. But Mary said, “I will do it.”
Mary was in love with a carpenter named Joseph. When Joseph figured out that Mary was having a baby, he freaked out! The next day Caesar Augustus ordered everyone to go to their hometown to pay their taxes. So Joseph had to go to Bethlehem to pay taxes.
When they got there, it was very late. They asked if they could stay in an inn, but the innkeeper said there was no room. He said they could stay in the stable, so they did. Little did they know that the baby would be born. The baby’s name was Jesus.
A few miles away, two shepherds were watching their sheep until an angel appeared. The angel said, “The new Christ has been born.” So the shepherds went. When they got there, they bowed to the new king.
When a star was shining so brightly, three wise men saw it far away. They knew it was special. It took 12 days to get to Jesus. That’s where the Twelve Days of Christmas came from. Finally, they got there. They brought gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Mary thanked them. They kneeled for the king of peace. Soon everybody knew about the king.
Well, that’s the story. Have a great holiday. Bye!

A long time ago, there was a girl named Mary. One day, an angel appeared. The angel said, “Mary, you will have the Son of God. His name will be Jesus.” Mary married Joseph. She liked him. He didn’t know if he should marry her or not! But he did.
Joseph had to go back to his hometown because he had to pay taxes. After that they went to see if any inn houses were open. But the innkeeper said, “Go to my stable. You can sleep there.” So they went there. The animals knew he was the Son of God.
Then angels went to some shepherds and told them the Son of God will be born. “Go to the stable. You will see him.” Then they went to see him. Then three kings saw the giant star and followed it. When they got there, they gave him gold and good stuff.

Do you know the true meaning of Christmas? If you don’t, you are in the right place.
A long time ago there were two people named Mary and Joseph. They were good people. Mary was born without sin. Joseph married Mary.
An angel appeared to Mary and told her, “Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee. Blessed is the fruit of your womb. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us, sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.” The angel said to Mary, “You are going to have a baby. You are going to name him Jesus.”
Back at Joseph’s house, an angel appeared in Joseph’s dream and said the same thing. But in his dream.
So they traveled to Bethlehem. All the places were full so they had to stay in the stable. And finally the king was born!

Thousands of years ago, there was a girl named Mary. She lived with her husband Joseph.
One day an angel appeared to Mary and said, “You will have a baby and his name will be Jesus. He will be the Son of God. He will be the king of the world. You will be his mother. He will be the greatest star ever.”
Jesus was born in a manger. The sheep and other animals were friendly.

It is special on Christmas. Do you know why? Well, I will tell you the story.
A girl named Mary was in her house praying until an angel appeared in Mary’s house. She was really scared. The angel said, “My name is Gabriel. You will have a baby. Its name will be Jesus. He will be laid down in a manger and you will see stars.”
