Sr. Rosemary Empen, OP, has died
Sister Rosemary Empen, OP, died March 2, 2022, at St. Elizabeth Manor, Footville, Wis. Her religious name was Sister Aemilia. The funeral Mass was held at the Dominican motherhouse, Sinsinawa, March 11, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.
President Manion marks rescue plan anniversary with gratitude
This week marks the one-year anniversary of the American Rescue Plan, the federal legislation that included stimulus funds that helped keep colleges and universities open and operating during the COVID-19 pandemic. Students across the country, including students at Edgewood College, received direct support under the American Rescue Plan.

Durante el tiempo de Cuaresma cada año, la iglesia nos pide que practiquemos el ayuno y la abstinencia. La práctica del ayuno se remonta a los tiempos bíblicos y por ende lo encontramos en la Biblia, tanto en el Antiguo Testamento como en el Nuevo Testamento. El ayuno aparece primeramente en el libro de Génesis 2:17, cuando Adán y Eva rompen el ayuno proclamado por Dios de no comer del árbol de en medio del jardín, el árbol de conocimiento del bien y del mal. Adán y Eva rechazaron la vida verdadera dependiente de Dios y la cambiaron por una vida que dependía “solo de pan” es decir, de la comida fuera de Dios “serán como dioses” les dijo Satanás. Por eso Nuestro Señor Jesús reitera en Mateo capitulo cuatro, durante sus tentaciones en el desierto, que “No solo de pan vive el hombre” ayudándonos a entender así que nuestra dependencia debe basarse de una manera intencional en Dios y no en las cosas materiales de este mundo.
Diocese hosts local synod session
On the afternoon of February 27, close to 200 individuals, well representing the Diocese of Madison regionally, gathered at St. Dennis Parish in Madison, to pray with Bishop Donald J. Hying of Madison in offering the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and then to gather with the opportunity for the bishop to consult with members of the faithful of the diocese.

During Lent, I am reading one chapter of Scripture every day, starting with John’s Gospel. Reading one of the Gospels sequentially gives one a full picture of the Good News, the whole story of Jesus Christ, each with a different perspective.
