To the editor:
I read with great interest Bishop Hying’s column on faith during this COVID-19 pandemic. God has used this to gift us with the gift of empathy with persons with disabilities!
Unable to attend Mass? Socialize? Work? Worried about finances? Feeling isolated?
Persons with disabilities face these limitations every day.
And many are also confronted with exclusion in their parish. Many persons with disabilities find few opportunities to minister as deacons, lectors, ministers of Communion, cantors in their parish. No training programs, no ramps to the altar, etc.
Hopefully, parishioners who lack a disability will become aware of barriers in their parish and work with persons with disabilities to make their parish inclusive for all.
Praise God who gives hope!
