Thoughts for high school grads going to college
Journey with Faith Deacon Lawrence Oparaji |
Hello, dear graduate, Congratulations on achieving such an important milestone! You have reached it because of your faith that God, who started this good work in you, will bring it to fulfillment.
In addition, your hard work, your dedication, and some very vital relationships — family and friends who have supported you and loved you and journeyed with you — have all helped you come to this moment in your life. Please know of my best wishes going forward.
‘I feel like I have died and gone to heaven!’
In my short time here in the Diocese, people have asked me how things are going, how I like it so far.
I always say that I feel like I have died and gone to heaven! Everyone has been so welcoming, kind, warm, generous, and faith-filled. I immediately felt at home here because of your remarkable goodness. Thank you for such a precious gift!
Protecting an authentic democracy
Those of us who have grown up within the womb of a democratic society may not always recognize how radical the idea behind such a society actually is, nor how fragile its structure can be in the face of strident claims regarding individual freedoms.
Legalization of abortion, to focus on one of the most strident claims, corrodes the very pillars of our democratic society.

A dozen reasons to choose Catholic schools
This time of year always brings me a feeling of excitement, because school is starting again.
Even though I haven’t attended school for years, I still remember my own 12 years as a student in Catholic elementary and high schools in La Crosse, Wis. Those were happy years for me in so many ways.
Likewise, I enjoyed participating as a parent with our own children when they attended Our Lady Queen of Peace Elementary School and Edgewood High School in Madison. I know that they, too, appreciated their time at those schools.
