The reality of abortion and the hope of change
We stand at a pivotal point in the great moral debate over abortion in our country — not because new arguments have emerged, but rather because laws so breathtaking in their barbarism have been passed, and a film so visceral in its presentation of the reality of abortion has found a wide audience.
As John Henry Newman reminded us, assent to a proposition is rarely a matter of acquiescing to rational demonstration alone; instead, it often has to do with the accumulation of argument, image, impression, experience, and witness.
Our Lady of Hope Clinic celebrates 10 years
Approximately 11 years ago, Drs. Michael Kloess and Anne Volk-Johnson had a dream of practicing family medicine on their own terms.
That meant making the best decisions for their patients, without input from insurance company representatives, or oversight from hospital or clinic administrators; and it meant being able to incorporate the Church’s teachings on Corporal Works of Mercy and the sanctity of human life.
Chrism Mass celebrated in Madison
“Tonight, we celebrate the Mass of Chrism, in which the oils are blessed and consecrated …” said Auxiliary Bishop James T. Schuerman of Milwaukee.
Communion is expression of God’s unchanging love
Spirituality for Today
|
Holy Communion is the most precious gift that Jesus gave us. It is the perfect expression of God’s unchanging love. The Eucharist is the real presence of Christ on all the altars throughout the world.
In 2005, Cardinal Avery Dulles wrote, “This teaching surrounding the Eucharist, remains as true and as normative today, as it did from the beginning. The Council of Trent described the real presence of Jesus with three adverbs: truly, really, and substantially.”

We know what it’s like to lose a cathedral
On the morning of March 14, 2005, I was awakened with news that smoke was billowing out of the roof, spire, and bell tower of St. Raphael Cathedral in downtown Madison.
Our reporter then, Julianne Nornberg, traveled quickly to the scene of the fire, which had started at 5:31 a.m. Firefighters were on the scene at 5:39 a.m., and they worked to control the fire caused — we found out later — by an arsonist.
Destruction of cathedral
Unfortunately, the fire destroyed the roof of St. Raphael Cathedral, which collapsed into the church. The 150-year-old church was destroyed. A new spire, which had been raised to the top of the cathedral’s spire in 2014, was saved.
