It’s important to affirm life at the time of death
As we approach the end of October observed as Respect Life Month and All Souls’ Day on November 2, our thoughts turn towards the end of life.
I think our society today avoids issues of suffering and death. Some say we live in a “death-defying and death-denying” society.
Denying death
As Jeffery A. Johnson says in an article called “Denial: The American Way of Death” (www.OrthodoxyToday.org), modern Americans seems to be “preoccupied with the preservation of youth and beauty.” He says that “society seems content to cling to the illusion that youth — and life — can last forever.”

The Beacon, ‘a very special facility,’ opens
“This is more than a shelter. This is more than a hangout. This is where people come so that we can help them remove obstacles, get connected to services, and get out of homelessness,” said Jackson Fonder, president and CEO of Catholic Charities Madison.
Respect life at every stage of development
In 1972, Respect Life Month was initiated by the American Catholic bishops. It is observed yearly during October in United States Catholic dioceses and stresses the value and dignity of human life.
Prayers answered through the Catholic Herald and Mother Mary
MCFARLAND — Just as Jesus multiplied five barley loaves and two fish to feed the multitude, so too, through Mother Mary’s intercession, he has multiplied the efforts of Mary’s Rosary Assemblers of Christ the King Parish in McFarland to answer many prayers.
In the March 9, 2017, issue of the Catholic Herald, Mary’s Rosary Assemblers announced its 10-year anniversary in an article entitled “Touching Lives — One Bead at a Time.” The article reported accomplishments to date, including distribution of over 24,000 mission Rosaries and efforts to promote a devotion to the Holy Rosary.
When is it a sin to make a referral?
During World War II, if a contractor had been asked to construct a building knowing that it would serve as a gas chamber in Auschwitz, it goes without saying that he ought not agree to do it.
