As His Excellency, Bishop Robert C. Morlino of Madison, sprinkled holy water around the newly dedicated St. John Paul II Dining Hall at Camp Gray, both the magnitude of the evening, and holy water, hit me square in the face.

PINE BLUFF — On Friday, Oct, 13, at 6 p.m. at St. Mary of Pine Bluff Church, His Excellency Robert C. Morlino, Bishop of Madison, will celebrate a Pontifical Mass at the Throne for the 100th anniversary of the apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima and the Miracle of the Sun.
Being thankful for humbling moments
My knuckles turned white as I gripped the steering wheel on the way to Urgent Care.
In the rearview mirror, I glanced constantly at my daughter, who rested her head gingerly on a pillow in the backseat.
For days, she’d complained that her head hurt off and on, but this day when I picked her up from school, her face was ashen and her eyes held a fevered look, though there was no fever.
I could tell there was something wrong, and I feared the worst.

Blessed Sacrament Parish hosts pro-life speaker
MADISON — When I was at a Chicago parish, I had the wonderful opportunity to work with Mary FioRito, who headed up all the pro-life activities of the Archdiocese of Chicago.
Mary is an accomplished speaker, lawyer, and writer, and she has a big heart. Mary possess the unique ability to reach out to women who are hurting after an abortion, as well as to take on a difficult debate with kindness and compassion.
George Weigel’s Lessons in Hope
George Weigel’s latest book, Lessons in Hope: My Unexpected Life with St. John Paul II, is the third panel in a great triptych he has composed in honor of the most consequential Catholic figure of the second half of the 20th century.
While the first two books — Witness to Hope and The End and the Beginning — are marked by careful analysis and thousands of footnotes, this last volume is more personal, filled with anecdotes and stories about the author’s many encounters with John Paul over the years.

Keep the dream alive at Camp Gray
It all started with a parish priest’s simple dream in 1953, recounts the history of Camp Gray.
Msgr. Francis Gray was pastor of St. Joseph Parish in Baraboo. He dreamed of a place “where youths would be free and away from the temptations of the streets; where they could enjoy nature and become acquainted with it firsthand . . . a place where they could commune, under supervision, with their Creator and away from paths so frequently leading to delinquency.”
Dream becomes reality
So, Monsignor Gray scouted out potential sites but became enamored of an unoccupied, uncultivated 100-acre wooded site about eight miles northwest of Baraboo.
Beloit students ‘plant’ Pinwheels for Peace
BELOIT — On September 21, Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic School children took part in an international art project, Pinwheels for Peace, by “planting” pinwheels with messages of peace in front of their school and church.
Pinwheels for Peace is an art installation project started in 2005 by two art teachers, Ann Ayers and Ellen McMillan, of Coconut Creek, Fla., as a way for students to express their feelings about what is going on in the world and in their lives.
