To the editor:
I am practicing Catholic member of a parish in the Diocese of Madison.
I am taken aback at the position taken by the Wisconsin Catholic Conference regarding the president’s hold on immigration.
I cannot understand why there is a problem with knowing who is entering the country. Period.
I am a grandson of an immigrant from Germany. My wife is the daughter of an immigrant from France.
Both of those immigrants entered the country legally through Ellis Island and went through the vetting process that was in place at that time. What is the objection to putting a hold on the process until we can regain control of it?
Yes, some people will be greatly inconvenienced by this disruption in their plans. But is their situation not still much better than if there was no United States to come to after they are cleared for entry?
