MADISON — Each year, Catholic committees on scouting, including those on the diocesan level, take time to honor and recognize adult leaders and committee members who give large amounts of time, effort, and faith to promote scouting for boys and girls.
On November 9, two leaders in the Diocese of Madison were given special recognition for their work with Boy Scouts in the diocese.
Richard Ley, member of St. Dennis Parish in Madison, and Gregory Bergenske, member of St. Patrick Parish in Janesville, were honored at the annual Diocese of Madison Catholic Committee on Scouting (DMCCS) 2014 Annual Adult Recognition Dinner at St. Dennis Church in Madison.
To the editor:
I was more than a bit perplexed by the “Challenges to feeding, thinking about the hungry” article in the November 20 issue of the Catholic Herald. In the last paragraph it is noted that perhaps our world population needs to be moved down to a more sustainable level, from the current seven billion to perhaps three to five billion.
It concludes that no one at the symposium had any suggestions of how to get down to that level. Unfortunately too many people/organizations do have an answer to that question (i.e., Planned Parenthood, Margaret Sanger, UNFPA, Zero Population America, Hemlock Society, etc.) by promoting abortion, birth control, and euthanasia.

MILTON — “And so my beloved . . . when red leaves are falling . . . the love bells shall ring out, ring out for you and me.”
With the holiness of Bing Crosby’s Father O’Malley and the grace of Ingrid Bergman’s Sister Benedict, St. Mary Parish in Milton’s “Belles of St. Mary” are witnesses of faith for their parish and surrounding community.
We have begun the season of Advent, the time when we prepare for the celebration of the birth of Jesus.
The religious dimensions of the holiday season seem to be getting diminished more each year. I think all of us need to step back and look at what we’re doing at this time of year.
MADISON — On the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, Monday, Dec. 8, at 7 p.m., Bishop Robert C. Morlino will celebrate a Pontifical Mass at the Throne at the Bishop O’Connor Pastoral Center, 702 S. High Point Rd., in Madison.
The Feast, or Solemnity, of the Immaculate Conception, which this year falls on a Monday, is a holy day of obligation in the United States because Mary, under the title of Immaculate Conception, is patroness of the nation.
