MILWAUKEE — School Sister of St. Francis Nila Bauer, who lived her religious vocation in education, died July 16 at Sacred Heart Convent in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Sister was 86.
The daughter of Edward and Agnes Bauer, she was born October 16, 1926, in Wilmette, Illinois. She was received into the School Sisters of St. Francis June 13, 1944; made her first profession of vows June 21, 1946; and final (perpetual) vows June 21, 1952.
Sister Nila is survived by her sister-in-law, Marilyn Bauer; brother-in-law, Rich Lumpp; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends; and the School Sisters of St. Francis with whom she shared life for 69 years.
Beginning in 1946, Sister Nila ministered in Wisconsin, Illinois, and Iowa for nearly 70 years. In the Diocese of Madison, Sister taught at St. Anthony School in Highland (1956-1960) and at St. John the Baptist School in Muscoda (1960-1961).
A wake and Funeral Liturgy were held July 23, 2013, at St. Joseph Convent, Milwaukee, followed by burial at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
