To the editor:
Local Catholics need to know that the former Saint Benedict Center, now renamed Holy Wisdom Monastery (HWM), makes no proper distinction between Holy Mass with the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist, and a protestant service. It’s not at all in keeping with a Catholic understanding of authentic ecumenism.
The Sisters, who left their vows in 2006, now lead something like a pseudo-parish, not in communion with the Catholic Church, and host various activist dissent groups and so-called “womenpriests.”
I was at Holy Wisdom on Ash Wednesday to deliver testimonies by local parish laypeople about why Catholics shouldn’t support HWM, to the two Catholic Benedictine women and a certain nationally-famous Sister who gave a reflection at their Ash Wednesday service.
This was a grassroots project conceived because we were so concerned about Sisters and even priests seeming to endorse this highly problematic place. One former Benedictine Sister asked my what my parish was; I said I go to the Cathedral Parish in Madison and asked in turn where she goes to Mass. She told me: “Here.”
But there is no actual Mass there; Bishop Robert C. Morlino had to forbid it.
I pray for everyone’s good and the return of Catholics to the Church. For more information go to: http://www.LaetificatMadison.com/tag/holy-wisdom-monastery/
