SINSINAWA — Sister Marie Christine McAndrew, OP, died July 17, 2012, at St. Dominic Villa. The funeral Mass was held in Queen of the Rosary Chapel at Sinsinawa July 20, 2012, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.
Sister Marie Christine made her first religious profession as a Sinsinawa Dominican August 5, 1947, and her final profession August 5, 1950. She taught intermediate grades for seven years and adult education for 13 years. Sr. Marie Christine ministered as a guidance counselor for 30 years and as an administrative assistant for eight years. She served in Illinois, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Italy and the District of Columbia.
In the Diocese of Madison, Sister Marie Christine taught at St. Patrick, Madison, 1953-1954, and served as guidance counselor at Edgewood High, Madison, 1954-1967.
Sister Marie Christine was born Jan. 13, 1924, in Chicago, the daughter of John and Esther (Maguire) McAndrew. Her parents; a sister, Joan Zak; and four brothers, Patrick McAndrew, Donald McAndrew, Harold McAndrew, and the Rev. Thomas McAndrew, OP, preceded her in death. She is survived by two brothers, Bertrand McAndrew and Alfred McAndrew; nieces; nephews; and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared life for 64 years.
