To the editor:
Aside from the fact that weekly attendance is an obligation, we attend Mass to worship God and to participate in the Pascal mystery. We are not there to be entertained or to see what we can get out of it. We attend for what we put into it.
The Church designed the liturgy for prayerful, respectful worship; the church is a sacred space and we must behave accordingly. Vatican II opened up the liturgy for us to have a better understanding of what takes place during the Mass, and for us to have a fuller participation in the Mass.
We do not own the liturgy; it is not for us to trifle with. The Church owns the liturgy and we are obligated to be obedient to the Church.
