GREENFIELD — School Sister of Notre Dame Mary Olivia Reindl died on October 4, 2012, at Our Lady of the Angels Retirement Community, Greenfield, Wis. She was 94.
Sister Mary Olivia was born on June 1, 1918 in Waukesha, Wis., to Frank and Mary Olive (Murphy) Reindl, and was baptized Kathleen at St. Joseph Church in Waukesha, Wis. Kathleen was the first of family’s 12 children. Shortly after her birth, her parents moved to Manitowoc, Wis., where she attended St. Boniface School. When the family moved to Madison, Wis., she completed her elementary education at St. James School. After her 1936 graduation from Edgewood High School in Madison,she entered the SSND Candidature, at the motherhouse in Milwaukee. She professed first vows on July 20, 1939. Sister Mary Olivia earned a B.S. in mathematics from Mount Mary College, Milwaukee in 1950; an M.A. in psychology from Fordham University, New York in 1957; and a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Loyola University, Chicago in 1965.
Sister Mary Olivia was as an educator and later a psychologist for nearly 50 years, prior to her service as a member of the SSND Milwaukee Provincial Council and as a pastoral minister for a parish. Her ministry locations included: St. Barnabas Parish, Mazomanie, Wis., 1987-2001. Sister Mary Olivia retired in 2001, residing in Mazomanie until she joined the Notre Dame of Elm Grove community in 2005.
Sister Mary Olivia is survived by her brothers Gerald, John and David Reindl; and her sisters Marguerite Jones and Mary Hausener.
