To the editor:
As we ponder the ramifications of the January 22 Roe vs. Wade decision that legalized abortion 39 years ago, I would like to comment on the closing of the Rockford abortion mill.
This closing would not have been possible without the presence of many faithful pro-life Christians. For over two decades, these valiant pro-lifers have been there praying, witnessing, and pleading with the mothers who walked into the killing center.
During the past year these same people arranged for an ultrasound to be parked by the abortion mill with at least eight mothers choosing life.
This mill has resulted in the deaths of over 60,000 pre-born babies and wounded countless mothers, fathers, and families.
Signs in the windows ridiculing Christians included pictures of Jesus giving the finger and a rubber chicken hung on a crucifix.
After numerous calls from pro-lifers to the Illinois Department of Health and Human Services, there was finally an investigation.
Another reason the killing center was allowed to operate for so long was the continued suppression by the Rockford Register Star newspaper of the full story about these dangerous and horrific conditions even though a report about these conditions was published by the Illinois Department of Health and Human Services four months before the mill was finally closed.
The unprofessionalism, blatant disregard for the laws, lack of health and safety of mothers to the point of contempt towards women played a major part in the closing of this facility.
We should all be eternally grateful to those who made this closing possible. Prayers are needed so that another mill is not opened at a new site in Rockford.
