In the Declaration of Independence, it states: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”
In the 14th amendment it states: “nor shall any State deprive any person of life . . . nor deny any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.”
Just when it looked like state and federal abstinence-based sex education programs were set to lose funding, a new study shows that abstinence-only programs do work.
But is it too little, too late to change minds, hearts, and government programs?
I hope not.
At a recent Knights of Columbus meeting, members received information about a new Supreme Council program called the Ultrasound Initiative.
On Sunday, Jan. 17, 51 seminarians of the Pontifical North American College were instituted to the Ministry of Lector during a celebration of the Eucharist. Scott M. Jablonski of the Diocese of Madison, who is in his first year of theological studies, was among those seminarians instituted.
Thank you all for your overwhelming generosity in giving of your spiritual and material goods in order to aid our sisters and brothers in Haiti.

Dear Friends,
In the first place, let me thank you most sincerely for your remembrance in prayer during the days of my vacation. They were special days for me of friendship, especially friendship with the Lord, and also some needed rest and recreation. The time was most enjoyable and life-giving, I’m sure in large part due to your prayers. And, of course, I remembered all of you every blessed day.
Msgr. William A. DeBock, 86, a pastor emeritus in the Diocese of Madison, died on Saturday, Feb. 6, in Madison.
On Friday to Sunday, Feb. 26, 27, and 28, the Bishop O’Connor Catholic Pastoral Center will be host to a YOUTH 2000 retreat for high school and young adults, led by the Franciscan Friars and Sisters of the Renewal.
Christopher West, author of the bestselling books Good News About Sex & Marriage, Theology of the Body Explained, and Theology of the Body for Beginners, will speak in Madison Friday, Feb. 19, at the Bishop O’Connor Center, 702 S. High Point Rd., as part of the free St. Thérèse of Lisieux Lecture Series.
