To the editor:
Lately, I have been reluctant to even identify myself as a Catholic. Friends of mine in other denominations were already warning their members during last year’s election that Obama is a threat to Christianity in this country, but many Catholics believed he was not as bad as his record showed.
Recently the bishops stated that we should support government-run health care as long as Congress added an amendment to prevent government money paying for abortions. So they put in such an amendment, and all the halfhearted pro-lifers voted for it so that it just squeaked past.
Obama is already vowing to make sure the amendment is taken out before the final bill! No surprise from the man who has the record as the strongest abortion supporter ever!
There are other objectionable parts to this bill also, not the least of which is the huge price tag it carries. My Catholic upbringing taught me that fiscal responsibility is an important trait of a Christian.
No Catholic should support this monstrosity with the drastic changes to health care as we know it which also violates the Constitution in many different ways!
