During the past two weeks, I’ve talked informally with both employees and patients of the University of Wisconsin and Meriter Hospital about the proposal to offer second-trimester abortions at the Madison Surgery Center at 1 S. Park St.
Not one person supports this plan. One employee told me she is very upset about abortions being performed in a health care facility. Although she herself would not be involved in abortions, she still finds it horrifying to know that unborn babies would die in the same building as life-giving health services are offered.
This employee was also upset that the local secular media has provided little coverage of the protests against the abortion proposal. She is not Catholic but was happy to hear that the Catholic Herald had covered this matter in our print and online editions.
Patients have also told me their dismay at having abortions provided at the Surgery Center. One woman who had knee replacement surgery there recently said she is opposed to abortion and would not cross a pro-life picket line in the future if abortions were offered there.
I encourage employees, patients, and all concerned people to join me in expressing strong opposition to this proposal. Contact information is found in both Msgr. Kevin Holmes’ and Greg Wagner’s articles on this Web site. Take action today to stop this abortion plan from taking effect in Madison.
