To the editor:
I was very pleased to read the article in the Madison Catholic Herald about Bishop Robert C. Morlino addressing the Knights and Ladies of the North Central Lieutenancy of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem at the recent annual meeting of the Order held in Milwaukee on “Knights and Ladies as Moral Force in Society” (October 23, 2008, issue).
I am a Knight of the Holy Sepulchre myself. I feel that the Knightly mission of defending the high ideals of Christianity is as vital today as it was in the days of the Crusades. Knights and Ladies can be a moral force for good in this world. That moral force helps ensure the Christian presence in the Holy Land and it also extends its efforts in practicing Christian virtues throughout the communities in which we live. I believe it requires Knights and Ladies to do three main things to be successful: Ability to help, willingness to help, and a faithful spirit of “doing instead of talking.”
Knightly virtue must be displayed daily in society and throughout the world. The rewards are felt in one’s heart and by the people you serve.>
