Strategic planning: Goals for 'Guided by the Spirit' process

Related articles:

MADISON -- Bishop Robert C. Morlino has set over-all goals for the "Guided by the Spirit" process for parish and school planning in the Diocese of Madison.

These goals will be followed throughout the planning process undertaken this fall throughout the Diocese of Madison. The goals were reviewed at the recent meeting of the Diocesan Planning Commission.

The goals include:

1. To insure that all individuals throughout our 11 counties are graciously invited every day, in one way or another, to meet Jesus Christ "Risen from the Dead," and be changed by Him.

2. To continue to offer the invitation of Jesus Christ the High Priest to young men so that, in sufficient numbers for the future, they will follow Him.

3. To teach with love the truths Christ has entrusted to His Church, so that clarification and conviction would replace ambiguity and confusion where such might exist.

4. To enhance the quality of parish life by encouraging collaboration and the sharing of resources amongst the parishes.

5. To strengthen the presence of ministry of the Church in urban, rural, and suburban areas.

6. To help all parishioners understand the reality of our desire to continue to be the sacramental Church we are and are called to be, while at the same time recognizing the diminishing number of priests available currently to serve parishes.

7. To act as good stewards of all human, financial, and facility resources, which will be needed for restructuring parishes and adopting new models.

8. To ensure that quality Catholic School education is available, accessible, and affordable throughout the diocese.

9. To build a greater sense of unity within the rich ethnic, cultural, and age diverse population present within the local Church.

Bishop Morlino said, "I know that there is and will continue to be a great deal of emotion as parishes reflect on their histories and come to grips with some of the realities we all must face concerning their futures.

"I want the 'Guided by the Spirit' project to be as collaborative and sensitive to local concerns as possible," said Bishop Morlino.

The Reid Group, a nationally recognized consulting firm, has been hired to help the diocese plan for the future.

Monroe Clinic: Embarks on modernization, renovation

MONROE -- Monroe Clinic announces plans to embark on a facility modernization and renovation on its Monroe campus.

This $50 to $60 million investment will further solidify Monroe Clinic's commitment to the region and the patients they serve.

The plans include the construction of a new addition adjacent to the hospital and clinic building and renovation of part of the existing hospital building. This project consolidates space for a number of programs and it allows for improved patient care efficiencies.

It will invigorate the community by continuing to provide valuable health care service on a local level, as well as reinvesting in the economic health of the region.

A number of options were explored, including construction of an entirely new facility or completely renovating the existing space. Monroe Clinic is combining the addition with renovations to the existing facility.

This plan includes the consolidation of space for a number of programs, including digestive health, surgery, family birth, and heart health centers. A few of this project's key components include:

• Unified surgical experience.

• Relocating and centralizing the hospital entrance and major laboratory functions.

• Installing a permanent MRI scanner.

• Renovation and relocation of the Family Birth Center currently located in the 1939 structure.

• Consolidation of cardiac services.

• Improved privacy and service in the pharmacy.

• Relocation, expansion, and consolidation of endoscopy, colonoscopy, and gastroenterology specialists creating a new digestive health center.

• Reduced utility expenses through upgrades of mechanical and engineering systems.

Design is anticipated to continue into 2007, with construction beginning in late 2007 or early 2008. Renovations and modernization of the existing facility will continue through 2010.

At a press conference announcing the plan, Mike Sanders, president and CEO of the clinic, said, "A facility expansion not only provides our patients the state-of-the-art healing environment they need, it also provides our employees a great place to work. A great place makes it easier to recruit and retain both physicians and employees. Keeping good jobs available in the region makes our economy stronger."

Monroe Clinic is sponsored by the Congregation of Sisters of St. Agnes.
