Remembering God. She reflects on the song, "The Friendly Beasts," in which each of the animals gave of their abilities or possessions according to the Lord's need. She asked, "What do we human beings give to the Lord? We were not there at the Lord's birth, but we can still give of our love and talents by serving the needs of others. Hopefully we will find it in our hearts to give Him this gift throughout the year, but especially at this season." I imagine most of us do not think of including God on our Christmas shopping list! Yet He should be on the top of our list. We can certainly serve Him by sharing our gifts and talents with those in need in our families, neighborhoods, parishes, communities, and even the world. The gift of peace. Sister Rosita also mentions the gift of peace. She notes that peace "does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble, hard work, pain, or sorrow." Instead, she says "peace means to be in the midst of all those things and still be calm in your heart." What a powerful reflection! Realistically, we know that perfect peace will not be achieved on this earth. (We wait in joyful hope for peace in heaven.) But to remain peaceful in the midst of our troubled, imperfect world - that should be our goal. More frequent prayer can help us achieve that stillness in our hearts, minds, and souls. It is not too late. Remember to give some gifts to God. And share His love and peace with others at Christmas and in the new year. Mary C. Uhler, editor
