Bishop Robert C. Morlino

Following is a statement by Bishop Robert C. Morlino on Msgr. Felix G. Oehrlein and Msgr. O. Charles Schluter being named "monsignor":

July 25, 2005

Official written notice was received from the Vatican early last Friday evening that our Holy Father Benedict XVI has named Msgr. Felix Oehrlein and Msgr. Charles Schluter as Chaplains to his Holiness.

We all offer our prayerful congratulations to Msgr. Oehrlein and Msgr. Schluter and look forward to celebrating this honor with them in the not too distant future.

As honorary members of the papal household, Msgr. Oehrlein and Msgr. Schluter are called in a special way to be signs among us of the Universal Church. I am very grateful to Pope Benedict for conferring these honors, which extend of course to all in the diocese because in honoring Msgr. Oehrlein and Msgr. Schluter, the Holy Father is honoring all of the wonderful, faithful people whom they have served over the years and who have helped them grow in priestly grace. The parish families in Wisconsin Dells and in Platteville are also particularly honored, and I am very grateful for that as well.

Let us continue to keep one another in prayer, joyful that papal honors have come upon our diocese.

The Most Reverend Robert C. Morlino
Bishop of Madison

Two priests:
Named 'monsignor'

MADISON -- Bishop Robert C. Morlino announced that Pope Benedict XVI has named two priests of the Diocese of Madison "monsignor": Fr. Felix G. Oehrlein, pastor of St. Cecilia Parish, Wisconsin Dells, and Fr. O. Charles Schluter, pastor of St. Mary Parish, Platteville, and St. Augustine Parish, Platteville.

"It's a great honor because it's wonderful being associated with the Holy Father," said Monsignor Oehrlein. He noted that this is a great honor for the people of the parishes as well because they are so supportive and make so many sacrifices.

"We appreciate the trust, confidence, and friendship of Bishop Morlino," he said. "Being named a monsignor is certainly helpful to the local community to know that our bishop and church is personally supporting the efforts of not only us but all pastors."   Full story ...

Bishop tours Camp Gray

The staff was excited to host the bishop in the middle of their third camp session of the summer. Camp Gray is an especially spirit-filled, vibrant place when campers are present and as Bishop Morlino toured camp he was able to meet and speak with campers of all ages. Shouts of "Welcome to camp, Bishop Morlino!" from many different cabin groups were heard throughout the afternoon.
