Handbell concert
MADISON -- People attending the annual Bells of Christmas concerts of the Madison Area Concert Handbells (MACH) are in for a unique sound and visual treat.
The world's largest handchimes are now a part of the group's instruments, allowing them to ring seven octaves of handchimes as well as six octaves of handbells.
The holiday concerts will be performed Saturday, Dec. 13, 7:30 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church, 6101 University Ave. (near Allen Blvd. in Middleton), and Sunday, Dec. 14, 3 p.m. at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 1609 University Ave.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 ages 16 and under - are available at Borders Book Stores in Madison or at the door.
Christmas production
MADISON -- Amahl, and the Night Visitors by Gian Carlo Menotti is a beloved work of the Christmas season.
The fully staged, costumed, lighted with full orchestra production at First United Methodist Church is now in its 10th season. The tradition will continue on Dec. 11, 12, and 13 with performances at 7:30 p.m. at the church, 203 Wisconsin Ave.
Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for children under the age of 18. Tickets may be purchased at the church during business hours (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday) and are also available at the Ward Brodt Music Mall on the W. Beltline Hwy.
Sunday Afternoon Live on Dec. 7
MADISON -- Sunday Afternoon Live from the Elvehjem welcomes Christopher Taylor, piano, Sunday, Dec. 7, at 12:30 p.m. in Brittingham Gallery III at the Elvehjem Museum of Art.
A critically acclaimed pianist and UW-Madison faculty member, Taylor will perform works by Beethoven, George Perle, and Franz Liszt.
There will be a reception after the performance; a free docent-led tour of the Elvehjem Museum begins at 2 p.m.
Sunday Afternoon Live from the Elvehjem is a free weekly chamber music series presented by the Elvehjem Museum of Art and Wisconsin Public Radio, with the cooperation of the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Music.
The series, hosted by music commentator Lori Skelton, is broadcast live on Wisconsin Public Radio stations, including WERN, 88.7, Madison.
Master Chorale: To perform Christmas concerts
MADISON -- The Wisconsin Master Chorale (WMC) will present its third annual Christmas concert entitled Christmas Past, Christmas Present.
The 56-voice chorale will be performing at the following times: 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 5, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Stevens Point; 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6, at St. James Catholic Church, Madison; and 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7, at St. Stephen Catholic Church, Stevens Point.
Christmas Past portion includes Palestrina and Hassler double choir motets and classics such as Schubert's Ave Maria, Victoria's O Magnum Mysterium,
and Gounod's Sanctus.
Christmas Present will feature Christiansen's Lost in the Night, Rutter's Angels' Carol, and Willian's The Three Kings, as well as many favorite carols in refreshing new arrangements.
The highlight of this year's concert will be the Daniel Pinkham Christmas Cantata,
accompanied by Double Brass Choirs.
The WMC is under the artistic direction of Barbara Towey. A graduate of St. Olaf College, she has long been known for her outstanding choirs at Stevens Point Area Senior High School and Trinity Lutheran Church of Stevens Point.

Saturday, Dec. 6, 1 p.m., WHA (PBS) -- John Tesh's Christmas in Positano. Filmed on the Amalfi Coast of Italy, this program features a mix of Christmas classics. Tesh, his band, and the Italian Symphony perform in outdoor venues, villages, and historic cathedrals along the Italian coastline, including the harbor in Positano, the cathedral in Amalfi, the main square in Ravello, and the cliffs overlooking Sorrento.
Saturday, Dec. 6, 5 p.m., WHA (PBS) -- A Welk Family Christmas. The stars of The Lawrence Welk Show reunite with a guest appearance by the Osmond Brothers to share past holiday memories and more than 30 favorite Christmas songs.

Wednesday, Dec. 10, 9:30 p.m., WHA (PBS) -- Great Performances: "Berlin Philharmonic: Europakonzert From Lisbon." Performed in a different European city each year, Berlin Philharmonic's annual "Europakonzert" commemorates the orchestra's 1882 founding while celebrating the cultural life of the European community. From the historic Mosteiro dos Jeronimos monastery in Lisbon, Portugal, the 2003 concert features conductor Pierre Boulez and pianist Maria Joao Pires in works by Ravel, Mozart, and Debussy.
Saturday, Dec. 13, 8 p.m., WKOW (ABC) -- I'll Be Home for Christmas (1998). Witless road movie in which a manipulative college student (Jonathan Taylor Thomas) must get cross-country by Christmas Eve to claim a luxury car while worrying that a romantic rival will steal his girlfriend. As blandly directed by Arlene Sanford, the comic situations are highly contrived and the student's transformation from smug to sweet is unconvincing. An
indulgent attitude toward lying, cheating, and stealing as well as fleeting sexual innuendo. The USCCB Office for Film & Broadcasting classification of the theatrical version was A-III - adults. The Motion Picture Association of America rating was PG - parental guidance suggested.
