TV Programs of Note
Following are some theatrical movies and television programs of note. This information is being provided to assist people in making viewing choices.
Monday-Friday, 2:30 p.m., Inspiration Channel (cable) -- Catholic Mass.
Monday-Sunday, 7 a.m., 11:10 a.m., 6 p.m., 11 p.m., EWTN (cable) -- Daily Mass. No 6 p.m. showing on Sunday.
Saturday, Oct. 25, 7 p.m., EWTN (cable) -- The Calling. This family-friendly documentary follows Atlanta archdiocesan priest Fr. Tim Hepburn in his daily ministry as pastor of St. Gabriel Parish in Fayetteville, Ga. While chronicling Father Hepburn going about his mundane tasks doesn't produce exciting visuals, they do suggest a man blessed by grace and fulfilled in his vocation. Offering an intimate look at one man's vocation, it also gives us a sense of his frustrations as well as the joy he takes in being of service to so many, all part of his unique calling. A relaxed but thoughtful documentary, it may be of particular interest to youth considering a vocation to priesthood or religious life. Repeats 2 a.m. Oct. 28 and noon Oct. 30.
Sunday, Oct. 26, 7 a.m., WISC (CBS) -- Mass. Celebrated by Msgr. Thomas Campion, sponsored by Apostolate to the Handicapped.
Sunday, Oct. 26, 11 a.m., EWTN (cable) -- "Solemn Mass from the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C., in celebration of the 25th anniversary of John Paul II's pontificate." Repeats 11 p.m.
Sunday, Oct. 26, 6 p.m., EWTN (cable) -- A Little
about Don Orione. This program, using actual footage, historical photos, and re-enactments, tells the history of the Society of Divine Providence and its founder Don Orione. The program highlights foundations and work in South America and the U.S.A. Several spiritual talks given by Don Orione are as appropriate for today's society as they were for his. The program clearly illustrates the characteristics of Don Orione: charity and devotion to the church, to the Blessed Virgin Mary, to the Holy Father, and to the poor. Production was filmed in Italian; English voiceover is provided. Repeats noon Oct. 28 and 2 a.m. Oct. 31.
Sunday, Oct. 26, 8:30 p.m., WYOU (cable) -- Christopher Close-Up: "A Balanced Life." Actor Ethan Erickson reflects on the experience of "growing up poor" and how it affected the person he has become.
Monday, Oct. 27, through Friday, Oct. 31, 3:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., EWTN (cable) -- God Calls Us to Himself. Fr. Wade Menezes examines ways in which God draws us to himself. Themes explored in this five-part series stem from the dignity of human person. How are we made in God's image? How may we participate in his grace through an ardent spiritual life? Father Wade answers these questions and more, drawing on a variety of sources, ranging from writings of the saints, to the Bible, to the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
