Based on the popular children's book, this animated tale tells the story of Joshua, a crippled lamb who, because of his handicap, was left in a stable in Bethlehem and got to play a part in the birth of Jesus. Repeats 3:30 p.m. Dec. 27. Sunday, Dec. 15, 6:30 p.m., EWTN (cable) - "The First Christmas." This colorful animated production tells the traditional story of the birth of Jesus. Witness the encounter with the innkeeper who has no rooms, but provides shelter in a stable where Mary gives birth. Follow the Magi as they follow the star that led them to the Baby Jesus. Narrated by Christopher Plummer. Sunday, Dec. 15, 8 p.m., Travel (cable) - "New Zealand: The Royal Tour." The country's prime minister, Helen Clark, traverses the lush rainforests, alpine peaks, and steep canyons of the land where the "Lord of the Rings" movie trilogy was filmed. Sunday, Dec. 15, 8 p.m., WMTV (NBC) - "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" (1989). In the third Griswold family saga, dizzy dad Clark (Chevy Chase) aims to create an old-fashioned Christmas at home despite his clumsy pratfalls and short-fuse patience pushed to the limit by wife (Beverly D'Angelo), kids, in-laws, and assorted relatives. Director Jeremiah S. Chechik keeps the gags moving quickly past the double entendres and gets some laughs from Clark's bumbling attempts to enjoy Christmas. Some rough language laced with vulgarities and sexual innuendoes. The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops classification is A-III - adults. The Motion Picture Association of America rating is PG - parental guidance suggested. Sunday, Dec. 15, 8:30 p.m., WYOU (cable) - "Christopher Closeup: Michael the Visitor." Based on the Tolstoy classic and narrated by Stockard Channing, this clay animation film is a special holiday presentation of Christopher Closeup. Monday-Tuesday, Dec. 16-17, 8 p.m. each night, TLC (cable) - "Human Instinct." Four-part probe of instinctive behavior focuses on survival, desire, the competitive drive, and heroism. Tuesday, Dec. 17, 7 p.m., WHA (PBS) - "Teen Connection." This episode, the 50th in the series, deals with sexual abuse. Latest figures on reported and substantiated annual child sexual assault cases in Wisconsin is 4,949. A panel on the live call-in program will include three teen sexual assault victims and Jeanie Kurka Reimer, director of the Sexual Assault Center of Family Services in Brown County. Viewers may call 877-988-2888 during the broadcast. Tuesday, Dec. 17, 8 p.m., WHA (PBS) - "Mississippi River: The Main Stream." Humorist Roy Blount Jr. journeys down the Mississippi River to rediscover his roots, search for the spirit of Mark Twain, and explore both this great liquid divide and what holds diverse Americans together. Wednesday, Dec. 18, 3:30 p.m., EWTN (cable) - "The Chimes." This story by Charles Dickens is narrated by Derek Jacobi. On New Year's Eve, a poor messenger, Toby Veck, huddles in a church doorway waiting for work. Although his daughter soon informs him that she is to marry the blacksmith the next day, Toby wonders why he was born. He later saves a homeless man and his niece from jail and shelters them in his home. That night, Toby dreams that the Chimes show him what life would be like without hope or love. Repeats 3 p.m. Dec. 27 and 3:30 p.m. Dec. 31. Thursday, Dec. 19, 3 p.m., EWTN (cable) - "Jacob's Gift." Based on the popular children's book, this story of a 12-year old carpentry student in Bethlehem tells the timeless Christmas story with a message for all - the greatest gift is one that's from the heart.
