Messiah Concert
SINSINAWA -- Lift up your hearts and voices in song this holiday season by attending the annual "Messiah" concert at Sinsinawa Mound.
The performance in Rosary Chapel will be Sunday, Dec. 1, at 3 p.m., with a sing-along rehearsal at 2 p.m. The event is presented by the Sinsinawa Mound Civic Chorus, Orchestra, and the Dubuque Holy Trinity Lutheran Choir.

Sinsinawa Mound, the motherhouse for the Sinsinawa Dominican Sisters, is located in southwest Wisconsin on County Road Z, off Highway 11.
Christmas concert
MADISON -- The Edgewood College Music Department will present 75th annual Christmas Concerts, parts I and II, held in the St. Joseph Chapel at Edgewood College.
The first Christmas Concert will be held on Friday, Dec. 6, at 7:30 p.m., and features the Edgewood College Chamber Singers, Women's Chorus, and Wind Ensemble.
The second Christmas Concert will be held on Sunday, Dec. 8, at 2:30 p.m., and features the Edgewood College Community Choir and Campus-Community Band.
Tickets for each concert may be purchased at the door. The cost of $5 will benefit the Blackwell Music Scholarships.

Art exhibit
SINSINAWA -- "Art with Soul," an art exhibit by the Sinsinawa Dominican Sisters, will be held Dec. 6 through Jan. 27, in the Mound Gallery. The opening reception will be Sunday, Dec. 8, at 12:30 to 2 p.m.
A variety of artwork will be featured in the exhibit, including clay pieces, photographs, paintings, computer graphics, and relief woodcut prints.
Gallery hours are open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

'Sunday Afternoon Live'
MADISON -- "Sunday Afternoon Live from the Elvehjem" welcomes the Crossroads Trio on Sunday, Dec. 1, at 12:30 p.m.
The players Helga Consiglio, piano; Laura Lentz, flute; and Carina Voly, cello, form this trio of chamber musicians. This concert will feature music with a South American flair along with a piece by Japanese composer Hajime Okumura.
There will be a reception after the performance; a free docent-led tour of the Elvehjem Museum begins at 2 p.m.

Join Bishop William Lori, from the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, for a series of weekly reflections in preparation for the joyous Birth of Our Lord. Sunday, Dec. 1, 8 p.m., WKOW (CBS) - "The Christmas Shoes." Two families face daunting problems during the holiday season in this genuinely uplifting drama. Directed by Andy Wolk, the film is based on the same-titled book, which in turn was based on the hit record of the same name by New Song. Most holiday-season TV movies nowadays are either thoroughly secular or only pay passing lip service to the religious feast. "The Christmas Shoes," however, is proudly upfront about the spiritual side of its characters.
Sunday, Dec. 1, 8:30 p.m., WYOU (cable) - "Christopher Closeup: Living the Word." Actress Chrystee Pharris (NBC's Passions) shares insights about her recent trip to AIDS-ravaged South Africa where she promoted messages of abstinence to young people.
Saturday, Dec. 7, 7 p.m., WMTV (NBC) - "It's a Wonderful Life" (1946). Seasonal favorite about the joys and trials of a good man (James Stewart) who, facing financial ruin on the eve of Christmas, contemplates suicide until his guardian angel (Henry Travers) shows him how meaningful his life has been to those around him. Young children may find the story's dark moments unsettling. The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops classification of the theatrical version was A-II - adults and adolescents. Not rated by the Motion Picture Association of America.
