High school presents mystery thriller

MADISON -- Edgewood High School's Drama Department will present the award-winning mystery thriller, The Bad Seed. Based on Maxwell Anderson's Broadway success, The Bad Seed ticks away with the nerve-snapping suspense of a time bomb.

The cast who will bring this mystery thriller to life includes Amanda Vraga, Joe Salvo, Greta van Lith, Lindsay Grove, Rory Lucey, J.R. Ritcherson, Melanie Meyer, Adam Braus, Amanda Roark, Tommy Lindholm, and Chris Bush.

Understudies are Jessica Robertson, Ben Hickel, Melanie Meyer, Alex Garrett, James Zabawski-Williamson, Elise Meyers, and Danielle Kamps.

The production staff for The Bad Seed is: Pamela Hanson-Stewart, artistic director and producer; Mark Thering, technical director; drama assistants - Maureen Moravchik, Kerry van Lith, Lisa St. Louis, and Cathy Barker; lighting design - Ruth Domack and Mark Hintz; sound design, Eric Pantano; acting coach, David Condon; poster and program design, Jim Ottney; and Laurie Mullen, house manager.

Opening night for The Bad Seed is Thursday, Nov. 21, at 7:30 p.m. with subsequent performances on Friday, Nov. 22, at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 23, at 7:30 p.m. The closing performance will be a Sunday matinee on Nov. 24, at 2:00 p.m. All performances take place in the Sr. Kathleen O'Connell Auditorium. Quartet on Sunday Afternoon Live

MADISON -- "Sunday Afternoon Live from the Elvehjem" welcomes the Pro Arte Quartet on Sunday, Nov. 24, at 12:30 p.m.

The quartet includes David Perry, violin; Susan Beia, violin; Sally Chisholm, viola; and Parry Karp, cello. There will be a reception after the performance; a free docent-led tour of the Elvehjem Museum begins at 2 p.m.

Oakwood Players schedule concert

MADISON -- The Oakwood Chamber Players will present their Christmas Lights concert on Friday, Nov. 29, at 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. at Oakwood Village West Auditorium, 6209 Mineral Point Rd., and on Sunday, Dec. 1, at 3 p.m. at First Unitarian Society, 900 University Bay Dr.

Christmas Lights will include a potpourri of holiday songs. Chestnuts, sleigh rides, sleeves of green, mangers, housetops, Rudolph, jazz, and classics. The Players recently released their new "Christmas Lights, A New Strand" CD.

Individual tickets are $12 for adults, $8 for senior citizens, and $5 for students. For tickets or additional information, call 608-230-4316.

Student gives recital

MADISON -- The Edgewood College Music Department presents Lindsey A. Nichols, soprano and pianist, in her student recital on Sunday, Nov. 24, at 2:30 p.m. in the St. Joseph Chapel at Edgewood College. The recital is free and open to the public. Sunday, Nov. 24, 7 a.m., WISC (CBS) - "Mass." Celebrated by Msgr. Thomas Campion, sponsored by Apostolate to the Handicapped.

Sunday, Nov. 24, 6 p.m., EWTN (cable) - "Catholic Compass: No Price Too High." The profound conversion story of a Protestant minister who brought his congregation with him into the Catholic Church. The viewer will discover the sacrificial yet triumphant journey of a man of deep integrity and love for Christ. Repeats noon Nov. 26; 2 a.m. Nov. 29.

Sunday, Nov. 24, 8:30 p.m., WYOU (cable) - "Christopher Closeup: Now and Again." Actor Eric Close (TV's "Without a Trace, Now and Again") explores how his Christian faith affects the roles he chooses, and shares insights on how he and his wife have created a successful marriage.

Wednesday, Nov. 27, 8 p.m., WHA (PBS) - "The Great Fire of Rome." From the "Secrets of the Dead" series, an exploration of the 64 A.D. conflagration that engulfed the Eternal City, suspected to have been started by Emperor Nero so he could construct a new city dedicated to himself.

Thursday, Nov. 28, 9 p.m., WHA (PBS) - "Young Dr. Freud." This special examines how Freud created the revolutionary theories that became part of the fabric of 20th-century life and thought, shaping contemporary notions.
