'Sunday Afternoon Live'

MADISON -- "Sunday Afternoon Live from the Elvehjem" welcomes the Pro Arte Quartet on Sunday, Sept. 22, at 12:30 p.m.

This is the first appearance of the season for the Madison based quartet at the Elvehjem. The players include David Perry, violin; Susan Beia, violin; Sally Chisholm, viola, and Parry Karp, cello. They will play music of Beethoven and Dvorak.

There will be a reception after the performance; a free docent-led tour of the Elvehjem Museum begins at 2 p.m.

"Sunday Afternoon Live from the Elvehjem" is a free weekly chamber music series presented by the Elvehjem Museum of Art and Wisconsin Public Radio, with the cooperation of the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Music. The series, hosted by music commentator Lori Skelton, is broadcast live on Wisconsin Public Radio stations, including WERN, 88.7 Madison.

College faculty recital

MADISON -- The Edgewood College Music Department announces the faculty recital of JW Davis, "Jazzy Classics and Classic Jazz," to be performed Sunday, Sept. 21, at 7 p.m. in the St. Joseph Chapel, located on the Edgewood College campus.

Tickets may be purchased at the door: general admission, $7; student and senior tickets, $5, and those with a valid Edgewood College Music Department ID, $3.

Monona Terrace party

MADISON -- Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center will celebrate its five-year anniversary on Sunday, Sept. 22, with festivities from noon to 5 p.m.

Featured will be live music from Madisalsa, Natty Nation, and Ladies Must Swing; a Kids' Zone full of giant inflatables; free cake and Babcock Hall ice cream; tours of the center; and other activities. The party is free and open to the public.

Christian music concert

SINSINAWA -- The Christian music extravaganza, "Family Fun with the Son," will be held Sunday, Sept. 22, from 1 to 4:30 p.m. at the Sinsinawa Mound Auditorium.

The concert features the local groups Arked Waters, performing spiritually charged Christian rock; St. Rose Cuba City Music Ministry, performing worship music; and Trinity, performing adult contemporary music.

The emcee is Carl Droessler, of Menominee, Ill., who will entertain with his faith and humor.

Ticket prices are $8 for adults, $25 for a family pass, and $12 for all tickets sold at the door. Children five and younger enter free.

'Tour of Churches'

MILWAUKEE -- The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist will present a "Tour of Churches" on Saturday, Sept. 28, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Entitled "Formative Spaces, Lives of Faith: Seminaries and Religious Community Worship Sites," the tour will travel to St. Francis Seminary, Marytown in Libertyville, Ill., and the College of St. Mary of the Lake in Mundelein, Ill.

The fee for the tour is $45 and includes continental breakfast, motor coach transportation, lunch, and a tour guidebook. For more information, call the cathedral at 414-276-9814.

Sunday, Sept. 22, 7 a.m., WISC (CBS) - "Mass." Celebrated by Msgr. Thomas Campion, sponsored by Apostolate to the Handicapped.

Friday, Sept. 27, 4 p.m., EWTN (cable) - "Super Saints." Bob and Penny Lord discuss the life of St. Vincent de Paul, whose feast day is Sept. 26.

Saturday, Sept. 28, 7 p.m., EWTN (cable) - "Miracle of St. Therese." This documentary tells the story of a young girl who became an inspiration to the French people. At the age of 14, Therese made known her wish to follow her sisters into the convent of Lisieus. Her father denied his permission, so Therese publicly petitioned Pope Leo II for his acceptance. With his blessing she joined the order of the Carmelites. Tragically, she died of tuberculosis in 1897 at 24. Sr. Therese's spiritual passion during her decade of dedication did not go unrecognized. In 1925 she was canonized as the second patroness saint of France. In 1998 Pope John Paul II elevated her to be named a Doctor of the Church. Repeats 2 a.m. Oct. 1; 9 p.m. Oct. 2; noon Oct. 3.
